University of Kent
One of the founding schools at University of Kent, Kent Law School has a long held reputation for providing anoutstanding critical legal education.
The Canterbury campus of the University of Kent is a beautiful 300 acre campus in the far south east of England, overlooking the (originally Roman and now largely medieval) city of Canterbury, the centre of which is less than a mile from campus. The University is less than an hour from London, and under two hours from Paris, France.
Kent Law School is one of the UK’s leading law schools. It was ranked 10th in The Times Good University Guide 2015, and 8th for research intensity in the Research Excellence Framework 2014, with more than three quarters of research output rated as ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’.
Kent welcomed its first substantial entry class of Canadian students into the Law School in 2008, and has many graduates who have returned to practice in Canada (in large commercial firms, provincial firms, as public legal counsel, and specialist firms). Kent has an active student led Canadian Law Society, which organises everything from visits by Canadian Law Schools and Canadian alumni in practice, to an annual Thanksgiving dinner!
Students at Kent have the opportunity tobecome involved in the multi-award winning Kent Law Clinic, which represents real clients on a pro bono basis, and offers unprecedented insight into the relationship between law in theory and law in action. The Law School also offers co-curricular modules in Mooting, Negotiation, Mediation, and Client Interviewing, and as an annual Canadian Law Moot.
In addition to studying legal principles, statutes and cases, students at Kent think about law within the context of the world we live in, and the social, political and moral influences which shape it. They learn about law as a global subject, and discuss and debate its impactand development.
