University of Southampton

Situated in a warm and green City on the south coast of England and just over an hour away from London, the University of Southampton offers students a vibrant and cosmopolitan city in which to live and study.

Southampton is a UK top 15 research-led Russell Group University and is ranked 96th by the QS World Rankings 2018/19 and 18th in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

Southampton Law School is proud to be one of the leading law schools in the country with a worldwide reputation for excellence in education and research. They have a strong network of links with business and industry and are home to some of the most prestigious research centres in the world, including: The Institute of Maritime Law, The Institute for Law and the Web and The Institute of Criminal Justice Research.

Southampton prides itself on the welcoming and supportive environment for the students. Support for Canadian students in particular is unparalleled: ranging from a dedicated Canadian Law Library on campus through to a Canadian Law Society, Canadian Law Ambassadors, tailored careers support and guidance for moving back to Canada with a Southampton LLB.

Southampton Law School is also relatively small, enrolling around 200 students a year. Our size really helps us create a collegial and close-knit community, ultimately leading to comfortable, confident students  who are well on the path to success.

Students are also supported with an extracurricular programme that helps them forge professional contacts and gain work experience through Southampton's careers fair, employability skills programme, skills development projects and a variety of Pro Bono initiatives. Southampton is also unique in that they offer students the opportunity to moot from Year 1 in a newly built state-of-the-art Moot Court.

Southampton Law School is one of very few Law Schools in the UK to offer a 2 year accelerated LLB programme with a JD Pathway. At the heart of this programme is the flagship ‘Canadian Constitutional Law programme’, giving Canadian students the edge when returning to Canada to prepare for practice.

For these reasons, Southampton has a thriving Canadian student community of around 70 students.
