University of Sussex

The University of Sussex, located in the beautiful coastal town of Brighton, is an excellent example of a southern university. Boasting a modern campus with all the amenities one could ask for nestled in national park land and only 20 minutes from the ocean.

The University houses eight research centres that are accessible for law students to get involved with, and is affiliated with dozens of other centers and institutes. Research is a strong focus for the University and the law school, ranked in the top 15 universities in the UK according to the Times Higher Education Rankings and 26th in the UK for Law research in the 2014 REF’s.

Sussex Law School has developed solid links with Canada and there are now more than 100 Canadian students studying law. This strong Canadian influence on campus is reflected in the existence of the Canadian Student Law Society. The law school has expanded at an increasing rate, resulting in a new research centres including The Centre for Responsibilities, Rights and the Law. The school also offers various practical skills-based courses including: mooting, client interviewing, negotiation and criminal advocacy.

Law degrees at the University of Sussex

Studying law develops your skills of analysis, argument and persuasion, which equip you for a variety of careers after graduation. You consider how the law regulates the relationship between the individual and the state, and how it responds to dealings between individuals and groups. You engage with the very organisation of society and, through the lens of law, you examine all its constituent elements: commercial, social, political and economic relationships, families and associations, individuals and governments, countries and international organisations.

" My most rememberable experience studying at the University of Sussex, was the Professors; they were passionate, articulate, and determined to see that the Canadian students not only understood the new grading system, but that we also succeeded in our grades. "
